Basketball Ireland and the National Referees Committee are joining together yet again at the Basketball Ireland National Camp. The Referee Development Camp is an exciting new addition to the longest running basketball camp in Ireland at Gormanstown this July.
The four day (non) residential Referees Camp will be facilitated by a number of National Tutors, who will work with participants on a one to one basis to help develop your refereeing skills.
National Referees Development Officer, Paul Dempsey, explains:
Lessons learned from classroom session on topics such as Game Control, Fitness, Communication, Nutrition, Mechanics among others, will be taken on the floor daily where you will officiate at Camp competitions. Video technology will be used daily to review game situations with the Tutors to help improve your game.

- Philosophy of Officiating

Officiating games and receives immediate feedback on strengths and suggestions to improve from trained assessors and tutors. The Tutors are also available at meals, breaks and evening hours for one-on-one sessions with the participants.
This approach allows each “camper” to be immersed in refereeing techniques, mechanics, and psychology of refereeing at various levels. Camp size is limited so that participants have the opportunity to work closely with the Tutors. The Tutors are there to help you get better with your current game. If you are serious about getting better, then this Camp is the place for you to be this July.
Participants have the opportunity to take the skills learned in sessions and try them out in basketball games each night. The Referees Development Camp will provide you with the knowledge and skills needed to improve and advance your current officiating career.
