Day 5 – Signal Communication

This morning for our workout we completed a balancing and body control session. It was also to relax our bodies, as relaxation is also a key feature in the workout of any referee. Our body is our most important tool and it is important to look after it everyday!

In our clinic, today’s focus was on signal communication. As part of this session we were able to watch ourselves on camera and analyse how we run, how we stand and how sharp our signals are. In this session I found it to be very beneficial as I was able to be very critical of myself and identify mistakes I didn’t realise I was making.

Today was the finals of the 5 on 5 games and I was very lucky to be appointed the 3rd and 4th place game. The pressure was higher in this game which forced me to work harder, and learn how to manage game situations in which the pressure was increased. I found that in this game I had to relay on my voice more, and communicate with the players in order to keep the flow of the game.

Overall my experience in Slovenia is one that I shall never forget and the people have met will surely remain my friends for life! I can’t thank the NRC and Basketball Ireland enough for this amazing opportunity!
