Fernando Garzón, FIBA, started officiating in 1987 when he was 16. In two and a half years, he was officiating first Basque regional division, next year third Spanish national division. Due to injury at the young age of 22, Fernando had to curtail his refereeing at a high level but continued to officiate at local and youth level with young referees as well as being the local head of officiating.
In 2004 Fernando Garzón became FEB (Spanish Federation) referee instructor and started working with Federation referees, and also was responsable for publishing learning material for the FEB Referee website, available to everybody.
In 2012 he became FIBA Commissioner, in 2016, started working in the Potential Referee Group as a FIBA referee coach (where Maciej Nazimek is) and also obtained the National Instructor Licence.
