Postojna, Slovenia, July 2nd – 8th
Earlier this month Leanne Ahern travelled to Postojna in Slovenia to take part in FIBA Europe’s Women’s Basketball Clinic. Young players, coaches and referees from all over Europe gather at this camp. Leanne travelled with Kellie McCabe (Selected Irish Coach), Sinead Boyle (Selected Irish Player) and Lauryn Homan (Selected Irish Player).
The camp had an intensive schedule which began with a 7am workout session each morning, followed by lecture clinics with international instructors, Chantal Julien (FRA) and Kati Nynäs (FIN), and tutors, Jasmina Yuras and Dubravka Martinović. Each evening camp games were officiated and all games recorded with video feedback given.
Lectures and presentations each day dealt with topics such as Mental Preperation, Rules, Signals and Administration, Fitness and Nutrition, how to deal with situations as a female official, Mechanics and 3v3 rules.
Leanne herself added “My week in Slovenia provided me with a lot of experience and exposure, which I believe will be of great benefit to me as I continue to work on improving myself as a referee. I am hugely grateful to the NRC and Basketball Ireland who provided me with this amazing opportunity to pursue my refereeing goals”
