We are responsible for all referee matters under the auspices of Basketball Ireland. Our core principles are based on best practice and good governance, solid structures at Local Area and National level and the development of referees both individually and collectively as a community.
We continue to strive to establish a culture of being an open, adaptable, efficient and transparent organisation.
Dave Smith, Chairperson
As a former FIBA referee Technical Instructor & National Assessment Officer, Dave brings a vast vault of experience to refereeing. Dave has previously served as President of Basketball Officials Council of Ireland and he has a unique insight into the development of officials.
Marie Horgan, Administrator
As a current and former regional representative, Marie has been instrumental in the supporting of local Area Associations. As our Administrator she is central to our organisation and communication with everyone in the sport.
Marie is also a Referee Tutor & Regional Representative.
Mary Callanan, Registrar & Finance Officer
Mary is a qualified Chartered Accountant working with the Chartered Accountants Regulatory Board. She has more than 13 years experience working in the areas of accounting, auditing, finance and regulation and prior to joining the NRC she held the position as Registrar and Treasurer for a number of voluntary sporting organisations including the Midlands Officials Association (MOA) most recently.
Mary has played basketball up to National League level and has been refereeing for almost twenty years and was a member of the National League Officials Panel (NLOP) for two years.
As the Registrar and Finance Officer of the NRC Mary is responsible for all aspects of financial management, reporting and member registration.
Aaron Dunning, National Development Officer
Aaron has been involved in basketball for 21 years and began his career as a referee 16 years ago and has officiated at National League level for a number of years, during which time he has officiated at the Scania Cup in Sweden, and attended Alan Richardson’s Nationwide Referee Camp twice.
Throughout the years Aaron has held many positions including local Development Officer and NRC Representative for the Midlands Officials Association. Aaron is also a Referee Tutor and has been heavily involved in the redesign of the Grade 3 Referee Programme and worked on the sub committee that redesigned the National Scheme For Training.
Aaron currently works full time as an Advanced Paramedic with the National Ambulance Service.
Joe Naughton, National Appointments Officer
As our National Appointments Officer, Joe calls on his years of experience at all levels of the game, to ensure the right crews are h game. He is responsible for appointing to all National Competions under the auspices of Basketball Ireland. Joe has also been a key stakeholder in the renaissance of the W.O.A.
Joe is also a National Assessor.
Paul Dempsey, FIBA National Instructor
Paul’s long involvement in the game of over 25 years has seen him hold many positions in the past including, Supervisor of Officials and Finance Officer for BOCI.
As FIBA National Instructor, Paul will be responsible for the recruitment and training of our National and International Referees.
Paul will also represent the NRC on the International Affairs Committee of Basketball Ireland and is a Referee Tutor & National Assessor.
